Former Green Eagles winger, Adokie Amiesimaka has stood in defence of local coaches following last week’s call for the hiring of a foreign coach for the Super Eagles  by  the Enugu State Commissioner for Special Duties, Okezie Nwanjoku.

According to Nwanjoku, who was also a former Sports Commissioner for Enugu State, his position is based on the fact that the senior national team  lacks a technocrat and tactician who could tinker the players into world beaters.
His postulation was however punctured by Amiesimaka who said that hiring of a foreign coach is a setback for the team, stressing that with such comment,  the privilege of an  indigenous coach handling the team up to the World Cup would entirely be discarded.

The former Chairman of Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt added that the presence of local coaches in the Super Eagles has brought transformation to the  team particularly in the area of grooming players and producing talents.
According to him, Amodu has been doing a wonderful job and can even do better than the foreign coaches and needs to be credited for his good work instead of castigating him.

“All the people who are saying that Amodu is not good enough to make us qualify or may not lead us to the World Cup, with due respect, that is just a silly crab. It is a distracting and retrogressive influence on our part”, he said.

“Going by these comments, there is every tendency that we will never have any of our indigenous coaches to take us to the World Cup. Ever since Amodu resumed or took the coaching job, there have been improvement in the team especially with the fact that we don’t have enough  talent  hunt and young players development in past years.

“Amodu is doing marvelously well to enable us qualify for the World Cup. There is no big deal about these foreign coaches. We don’t appreciate our indigenous coaches that is just the problem, instead of applauding them, we prefer to condemn them. The thing is that our coaches can do better than them. Take for instance our game with France in Paris which was superb, nobody is giving him credit, all we do is to ridicule him when there is mistake. He has not lost any competitive match. If we can beat France, what stops us from picking the ticket. I think it is high time we stopped this issue of foreign coach.
