As at the close of entries on Saturday evening more than 700 athletes had entered for the Mobil Championship and still counting.

Secretary General of the AFN Maria Wophil said although she was excited about the number of entries the federation would put its foot down as a lot of entries were still coming in, some of them complaining about postage and transport difficulties.

A secretariat staff narrated the story of a club secretary who said he spent two days on the road before he could get to Abuja, hence the late filing of their entry!

Another factor that is troubling the busy secretary general is the fact that though entry standards have been set, a lot of athletes, clubs and states still enter with inferior qualifying standards, meaning a lot of work needs be done to weed the list ready for the start of hostilities on Thursday.
