No less than 80 players drawn from around the Nigeria, Benin Republic and Cote d’ Ivoire are expected to storm the garden City of Port_Harcourt for the 2009 edition of the Royal Hoopers Basketball Elite Camp holding at the Police Officers Mess grounds situated in the GRA.

The players who would have the opportunity of interacting with the cream de la cream of both foreign and local based coaches during the camp which runs from July 20, 24, 2009 are expected to be taken through life skills, basketball basics and character moulding sessions that would prepare them for the future.

According to the elite camp co_ordinator, Col. Sam Ahmedu (rtd) the list of 80 players invited for the camp includes members of the national U_18 team to last year’s FIBA Africa championship for U_18 men held in Alexandria, Egypt which includes Gift Achuwa (Royal Hoopers), Godwin Ikonsul (Cross Rivers), Hope Okojie, Godspower Igben (Islanders) and the duo of Seun Olarenwaju, Abayomi Oyeniyi (Dodan Warriors).

Other key players expected at the camp venue are Mohammed Buka of Dodan Warriors basketball club, Peter Odia of Police, Moses Johnson, Royal Hoopers, Adeolu Ojo, Kaduna State, Obeten Christopher (unattached), Joseph Victor Junior PG (Warriors Academy), Owolabi Suleiman (Oyo State), Nanu Agu (Police Bombers), Martins Okome (Delta State), Adindu Obinna Williams (Imo State) and Erikefe Umukoro (Delta State) all guards.

Players in the off guard position include Adewale Aladefa (Lagos State), Jonathan Odia, (Police Bombers), Ronald Alalibo (Bayelsa Waves), Jackson Namapele, Macarthur Finecountry, Moses Fiberesima (Royal Hoopers) and Adeola Alade (Lagos State).

“Small forwards, power forwards and centres are also invited and their letters have been sent. We ensured that every department of the game is taken care off,” Col. Ahmedu said. He further stated that players are expected to be at the camp venue on July 21, 2009 by 2:00pm as they are also expected to receive their kits there for the proper take_off of the camp the next day.

The elite camp being organised by the Royal Hoopers Basketball Club in conjunction with Global Sports Advantage headed by its founder coach Alex Nwora _ Head Coach Erie Community College, Buffalo, New York is also bring American basketball legend, Nate ‘Tiny’ Achibald.

The former NBA icon leads other foreign coaches like Jackie Knowles-Coach, USA; Tyrone M. Duren-Coach, USA; Myke Scholl  -Assistant Coach Loyola Marymount University, USA and Josh Bland -Associate Head Coach University of Bridgeport.

The crew also includes Ernest Browne -Coach, USA; Cecil Sievers -Coach USA; Nigeria’s Godwin Owinje -Ex D’Tigers and Radar Hoops; Obinna Ekezie Ex D’Tigers and Ex NBA Player; Osita Nwachukwu Ex D’Tigers and NCAA as well as Tunji Awojobi  Ex D’ Tigers captain and Europe Based professional.
