Former Ugborodo Community Trust Vice-Chairman, Mr. Isaac Botosan, has lauded Delta State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, for the inauguration of the new Ugborodo Community Management Committee, UCMC, saying that the move will ensure the final resolution of the unending crisis rocking the oil-rich community.

Chairman,Ugborodo Community Management Committee, Mr. Austin Oboroegbeyi, has frowned at the rejection of the bill seeking the relocation of headquarters of the various International Oil Companies, IOCs, to the Niger Delta region, by members of the House of Representatives, describing it as unfortunate.

THE relative peace in volatile Ugborodo community, Warri South West council area, Delta state has again been compromised as some agitated indigenes besieged the grounds of nearby Escravos operations of Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), threatening to attack the facility.

CHEVRON Nigeria Limited, CNL, evacuated its workers from the Escravos Tank Farm, Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, on Wednesday, as the protest by elders, leaders, youths and women of host Ugborodo, an Itsekiri community, who laid siege to the company since Tuesday, worsened.

UGBORODO people in Warri South West Local Government Area, Delta State, have implored government and oil firms in the area to support their newly constituted Interim Management Commitment, IMC, in steering the community from years of setback caused by leadership strife.

WARRI—FOR the first time since hostilities broke out in January, warring factions in the crisis-torn Ugborodo community, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, have met without third party observers at a unity gathering, indicating that peace may soon return to the volatile community.

A factional leader in the oil-rich Ugborodo community, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Thomas Ereyitomi, has blamed the recurring violence in the community on the failure of security operatives to challenge the unlawful eviction of some indigenes from their homes in Aruton (Ode-Ugborodo) by armed youths.

There is no problem with Ugborodo. It is a question of a few people trying to set different rules for themselves from the rest of the community. It is the issue of a few trying to change the goal posts just because the scores are not in their favour. It is about the people’s will to wipe out prolonged injustice and the inequality that has festered in the community to the detriment of the majority alienated.

ONE of the two warring factions at Ugborodo in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State involved in leadership tussle, which predated the proposed $16 billion EPZ Project to be sited at Ogidigben, has walked out on the Reconciliation Committee, headed by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr. Ovuozourie Macaulay, accusing him and Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of alleged bias.

The Ugborodo Peace Committee headed by Mr. Macauley Ovuzorie, Secretary to Delta State Government, has been urged to reconcile all Ugborodo elders and ensure that a valid constitution was put in place, if lasting peace is to be achieved in the community.
