Dim Chukwuneye Williams who allegedly attempted to smuggle $23,000 from US into the country by concealing it inside a cake, on Thursday appeared in an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday expressed the readiness of his administration to support and scale up the operations of the Nigerian Army against kidnapping, smuggling, armed robbery, illegal oil bunkering and other security challenges in the State.

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command under the Mushin Area Command led by the Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Olasoji Olabayo on Sunday swooped on a Jet A1 siphoning and smuggling ring who had been stealing the products for months and selling it as kerosene to unsuspecting members of the public.

LAST week the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced that with Yuletide approaching, the smuggling of rice, fish and poultry is increasing. Apart from these, any knowledgeable observer also knows that other prohibited essential food items such as vegetable oil, tomato puree, sugar and pasta among others, are also being brought in illegally by importers.

Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has said that Nigeria will not permit smuggling from neighbouring countries.
