The two arms of the National Assembly, the Senate and the House of Representatives, yesterday asked the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to extend the deadline for the usage of old naira notes beyond the January 31 target set by the apex bank.

Jolted by the reports of an alleged shortage of the new naira notes in circulation, the House of Representatives at Tuesday plenary resolved to meet with the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of commercial banks on Wednesday.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has assured marketers and traders that it has made the redesigned naira notes (1000, 500, 200) available for them via Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).
