Ame Imina-Uwagobe, the newly appointed Assistant Secretary for the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN Europe Region, has reaffirmed the council’s firm belief that young people are not the problem but the key to Nigeria’s future.
Imina-Uwagobe who was responding to his appointment yesterday said: “Growing up in London as a member of the Nigerian diaspora, I have always felt a profound connection to my heritage and a deep desire to contribute to the progress of our nation. It is, therefore, an immense honor to be appointed as Assistant Secretary,” he stated.
Speaking on his vision for youth empowerment, he said: “To be entrusted with the responsibility of serving Nigerian youth in Europe is a privilege I accept with purpose and gratitude. It’s a fantastic opportunity to give back to the community that provided me with purpose and helped me aim higher during adolescence—a period that can often be confusing for many young people.”
“Our belief at the foundation is that our youth are not the problem but the solution. We are actively developing grassroots initiatives like the upcoming ‘League of Eternal Peace’ in Kaduna State, using sport to foster peace, unity, and opportunity,” he explained.
He emphasized that with the right support, the potential of Nigerian youths is limitless. “I am motivated to work closely with the dedicated team at NYCN Europe and leverage my skills, global network, and digital platforms to ensure our messages reach young Nigerians effectively—whether they are in Europe or beyond,” he said.
Applying his academic background in Marketing and Psychology, alongside his experience as a student-athlete in the United States, Imina-Uwagobe intends to organize sporting and educational initiatives that unify and empower youths, showcasing their talents while fostering a sense of community.
“I look forward to working with Governor Idahosa and my colleagues to serve our community. Our goal is a future where every young Nigerian, no matter where they are, feels connected, supported, and empowered to succeed.”
The Governor of the Council, Amb. Collins Idahosa, in a conversation with Vanguard, expressed optimism about Imina-Uwagobe’s role in transforming the perception and potential of Nigerian youth in the diaspora.
“The skills and talents of Ame Imina-Uwagobe will help build up the upcoming youths in the Diaspora,” Amb. Idahosa said. “He is passionate, dedicated, and understands that when you empower youth, you inspire change. This is why we are confident he will make a significant impact in his new role,” adding that the appointment will lead to efforts that will inspire, empower, and transform the lives of young Nigerians in the Diaspora.
