On June 28, 2025, Regnum International School of Chaplaincy, RISC, in Alimosho, Lagos, celebrated the graduation and induction of its ninth set of chaplains (Batch A, 2025). Twenty-one students successfully completed the rigorous six-month training program under the leadership of Chief Chaplain Ambassador Dr. Peter Smith and Rector Chaplain Superintendent Dr. James Mercy Obatunmibi.

The ceremony commenced just after 11:00 a.m. amid light showers, with a procession of graduates into a packed event hall. The Nigerian national anthem and the Regnum Chaplains anthem were sung to open the event, which featured addresses from notable local and international dignitaries, including Ambassador Shaleen Das (India), H.E. Ambassador Dr. Tomesha Walker (USA), Prof. Chaplain General Faith Lana (Nigeria), and others.

In addition to the graduating students, thirteen individuals received Honorary Doctorates (Doctor of Humanities, Honoris Causa) in recognition of their outstanding contributions to humanity. The graduates were commissioned as chaplains, donning their white and navy-blue uniforms with navy-blue ties, and four students were specially honored for outstanding academic performance: Chaplains Chinyere Iheanacho, Jane Kang’Ethe, Ajibola Abiodun Olakonu, and Olufemi Okunnu.

The graduating class represented diverse backgrounds and countries, including Nigeria, Canada, and Kenya. Names included Roseanna N. Obodo, Victor D. Malasowe, Jane Kang’Ethe, and others. Four new students were also matriculated for the upcoming training session.

Chief Chaplain Dr. Peter Smith urged the graduates to dedicate themselves to community service—ministering in hospitals, prisons, schools, and supporting the Nigeria Police Chaplaincy. He emphasized that chaplaincy is a calling to serve others with spiritual care, emotional support, and leadership, especially in times of trauma.

The ceremony also featured a birthday tribute to Dr. Smith, with a cake presented by class captain Dr. Julius Kimani, who also delivered the vote of thanks. The graduating class gifted the college two industrial standing fans as a token of appreciation.

The event lasted about three hours, beginning with the hymn “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” and concluding with “There Shall Be Showers of Blessing.” Following closing remarks by the Rector, graduates celebrated with family and friends, capturing memorable moments on the red carpet.
