SOKOTO – In a demonstration of its commitment to nation-building and community welfare, the Headquarters of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army has organized a one-day free medical outreach for residents of Balle Community in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The outreach, held on Thursday, formed part of the activities marking the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL).

Aimed at improving healthcare delivery in insurgency-affected areas and enhancing civil-military relations, the outreach covered the Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR) under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA

Speaking during the event, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2, Major General Ibikunle Ajose—represented by the Commander of Defence Headquarters Special Operations, Colonel Mohammed Umar—stressed the significance of the initiative.

Colonel Umar stated that the outreach was targeted at addressing urgent health challenges in the Balle community. Free medical consultations, treatments, and essential drugs were provided, with a particular focus on women, children, and the elderly.

“The Nigerian Army remains committed to not only protecting lives and property but also uplifting communities through humanitarian initiatives,” he said. “This outreach is a reflection of our holistic approach to security and development.”

He called on the people of Balle to continue supporting the military and other security agencies, noting that peace and security require collective effort.

The event featured a team of medical professionals, pharmacists, and support staff who attended to hundreds of residents. Services ranged from diagnosis and treatment of common ailments to distribution of medications and health education for long-term wellness.

For many in the rural community, it was their first access to professional medical care in months. Grateful mothers clutched prescriptions while elderly residents expressed relief at finally receiving much-needed medication.

Community leaders described the intervention as a welcome development, especially in an area where access to healthcare is often hindered by insecurity and economic constraints.

Speaking on behalf of the people, the District Head of Balle, Alhaji Abdulrahman Usman, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Nigerian Army, calling the gesture timely and laudable.

“This act of compassion demonstrates that the Nigerian Army is not only a protector of lives but also a true partner in progress,” he said. “We are thankful for this show of love and support.”

Alhaji Usman prayed for continued guidance and protection for the Nigerian Army and all security agencies working to maintain peace across the country. He also encouraged residents to strengthen cooperation with the military, stressing the importance of mutual trust in achieving lasting security and development.

As the medical team concluded the outreach, smiles and expressions of gratitude lit up faces in Balle—a testament to the profound impact of the Army’s humanitarian outreach.

For the community, the event was not just part of a national celebration, but a renewed affirmation of partnership between the people and those sworn to protect them.
