Live true to your identity, cleric urges women as church ends convention

Women across Nigeria have been encouraged to uphold godly values and serve as virtuous role models to promote moral upbringing among younger generations and, by extension, foster a better society.

This charge was delivered by the President of Women Aglow International, Bishop Ireti Akinola, during the organization’s annual convention held at Champion Peace Cathedral, Rhema Christian Church and Towers, Sango Ota, Ogun State. The event, themed “The King’s Daughter,” drew Christian women from across the country.

Speaking on the topic “Living True to Your Identity as the King’s Daughter,” Bishop Akinola emphasized that Christian women must reflect God’s glory in their conduct and appearance, nurturing inner beauty through prayer, worship, and spiritual discipline.

“God sees beyond material possessions; He looks at your inner character and wisdom,” she said. “The glory God instills in you is cultivated in the secret place – through prayer, worship, and abiding in Him.”

She reminded women that the divine glory bestowed upon them is unfading, even amid trials and tribulations.

“If you want God’s glory and to be an achiever, abide in the Lord. The glory He gives us as His daughters is renewed day by day,” Akinola added.

On the subject of modesty, she urged women to dress in a manner that honors their identity as daughters of the King.

“Where three yards of fabric is appropriate, don’t use one. It’s not about affordability — people call it fashion, but we daughters of the King should cover our bodies gorgeously,” she said.

“Exposing yourself signals something wrong inside. Your appearance reflects your inner state. Don’t try to fit in; royalty doesn’t conform to worldly patterns. Be the example others follow.”

She called on Christian women to cultivate inner beauty through Scripture, prayer, and reflection, stressing that modesty and integrity are hallmarks of a royal daughter of God.

In her welcome address, Convention Chairperson, Deaconess Akinyemi Ajoke, encouraged attendees to embody their royal identity daily and be beacons of hope, love, and purpose in a world yearning for divine guidance.

The convention featured cultural performances, symposiums on topics such as mutual responsibility in marriage, raising godly children, family finance and investment, as well as training sessions conducted by the Red Cross Society.
