The owner of Prince 89.7FM, an Ibadan-based private radio station, Dr. Babatunde Balogun, has emphasized the critical role of community empowerment in tackling societal issues such as poverty, inequality, and social injustice.

Speaking at the station’s 2nd anniversary celebration held at the Ibadan Civic Centre, Dr. Balogun underscored the importance of uplifting individuals and families to drive sustainable development.

“Our mission is to create a positive impact in the lives of those we serve,” he said, noting that community connection is key to building resilience and achieving meaningful growth.

The event drew hundreds of attendees, including prominent broadcasters, religious and traditional leaders, professionals, politicians, widows, and fans of the station.

Dr. Balogun expressed heartfelt appreciation to the station’s supporters, acknowledging their role in its rise to prominence.

“No amount of money could have secured the coverage and prominence we have today without grace and focus,” he stated.

He recounted his journey from online broadcasting to establishing a terrestrial radio station, citing the numerous obstacles he faced.

“I am greatly indebted to many individuals, including my father, my parents, and the Zonal Director of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission, Mrs. Funmi Obisesan. Grace connected me to sponsors, because even 400 million naira may not be enough to start a radio station in Nigeria.”

Popularly known as Oruomeniowo, Dr. Balogun reaffirmed his commitment to supporting vulnerable and underprivileged members of society.

Chairman of the anniversary event, Oba Dr. Mufutau Yusuf, described Prince 89.7FM as a “beacon of hope,” and urged the station’s team to continue their humanitarian work.

The General Overseer of Love of Christ Global Church, Prophet Olabode Odunayo, also advised Dr. Balogun to remain humble and vigilant in his mission.

Other dignitaries, including Alhaji Abolade Salami and Comrade Yemi Sonde, echoed the call for continued dedication to societal advancement.

As part of the anniversary celebration, the station conducted generous giveaways:

14 individuals received ₦300,000 each

20 others won ₦1 million each

Prizes also included freezers, grinding machines, foodstuffs, and branded radio sets

Additionally, 100 post-secondary scholarships were awarded to students of the Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate.

Recipients of the support expressed deep gratitude, including a visually impaired beneficiary who shared how the gesture would significantly change their life. Widows and young people described the items they received as crucial for rebuilding their livelihoods and giving hope for a brighter future.
