ENUGU — Ray Kene Ogbodo, the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate in the 2023 Enugu State election, has applauded the formation of the New Opposition Coalition and the adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform to tackle hunger, insecurity, and poor governance in Nigeria.

In a press statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Azubuike Akam, Ogbodo urged Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring that the coalition offers a real opportunity for change ahead of the 2027 general elections. He expressed confidence that the coalition, made up of credible individuals with prior experience, would ensure accountability and a fresh direction for the nation.

He noted that the coalition’s vision closely aligns with his own and pledged to support any group or policy focused on lifting Nigerians out of poverty and driving national development.

Ogbodo described the inaugural speech of the Acting National Chairman of ADC, Senator David Mark, as “hopeful, inspiring, powerful, and magnificent.” He called on well-meaning Nigerians to support the coalition’s programmes and policies under the ADC, stressing that defeating the APC-led government requires collective effort.

“I will support the opposition coalition to deliver good governance to Nigerians and to hold government accountable where necessary, if elected into power by 2027,” Ogbodo stated.

Encouraging citizens to remain hopeful despite current economic difficulties, he said: “I sincerely appreciate the endurance and perseverance of Nigerians over the years; poverty shouldn’t be an option. The mission of this coalition is to lift many out of poverty — of the pocket, mind, body, and soul. We aim to reposition Nigeria for growth and hopefulness.”

Ogbodo also outlined the coalition’s development vision, which includes building a multifaceted economy, investing in urban and rural infrastructure, advancing agriculture, diversifying the energy sector through renewables, improving the transport system, tackling climate change, and making Nigeria a prime destination for tourism and investment.

Quoting Senator David Mark, Ogbodo concluded: “The coalition is determined to offer Nigerians a path to security, prosperity, peace, and progress. Coming from various political backgrounds, we are united in our resolve to present a constructive alternative to the hardship, insecurity, and waste that has become the hallmark of the current APC government.”
