Augustine University, Ilara-Epe (AUI), a Catholic institution, has held a grand celebration to mark its 10th anniversary with a Thanksgiving Mass and the official launch of its anniversary brochure.

The commemorative event began with a solemn Mass of Thanksgiving held at the university’s chapel, presided over by the institution’s Proprietor and Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, alongside 10 other priests.

In his homily, the Archbishop emphasized the importance of gratitude to God in all circumstances, describing the university’s decade-long journey as a testament to divine grace and unwavering human commitment.

Present at the celebration were members of the university’s Board of Trustees, Governing Council, Management, Staff, Students, and Parents. The event also drew notable dignitaries, including the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, HRM Oba (Dr.) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo (Telade IV) and his chiefs, Lady Doja Otedola—former First Lady of Lagos State and mother of the university’s Chancellor, Mr. Femi Otedola, religious leaders, and other well-wishers.

Archbishop Martins expressed deep appreciation to the visioner and project initiator, His Eminence Anthony Cardinal Okogie, Archbishop Emeritus of Lagos, as well as all those who had contributed to the growth and development of the institution over the past 10 years.

“God has been the power behind our progress,” he said, “and we continue to rely on Him for the future.”

The Archbishop also used the opportunity to pray for both the living and departed individuals who played vital roles in the establishment and advancement of AUI. He urged all stakeholders to continue supporting the university, affirming that even small but consistent contributions have helped sustain the institution’s mission.

Drawing inspiration from AUI’s patron, St. Augustine, and its motto: Pro Scientia et Moribus  (For Learning and Character), the Archbishop stressed that education should go beyond academics to instill values, virtues, and a love of God.

He encouraged staff to help students discover and nurture their talents in ways that serve the common good.

A highlight of the Mass was the confirmation of 29 students, who received the sacrament of Confirmation. Archbishop Martins congratulated the newly confirmed students, describing them as now fully initiated into the Catholic faith. “You are now soldiers of Christ,” he declared, “called to witness through your life, speech, and conduct.”

Following the Mass, the second part of the celebration took place at the Convocation Hall, beginning with a welcome address by the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Odetunde.

The Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies presented a documentary chronicling the university’s journey, after which the 10th Anniversary Brochure was officially unveiled. Guests were invited to support the institution through book launches and other contributions.
