The Lagos State Government has announced plans to commence repair works on the Ogudu-Ifako Bridge along the Alapere–Oworonshoki Expressway from Saturday, June 28 to Wednesday, October 15, 2025, a period of 110 days.

Originally postponed, the long-awaited rehabilitation will now proceed in eight phases across both lanes of the bridge. In preparation, the state has released a traffic diversion plan to ensure minimal disruption and smooth vehicular movement.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Osiyemi, “The 1st to 4th phases covering the Ogudu-Ifako Bridge inbound Alapere will run from June 28 to August 16, 2025 (50 days). The 5th to 8th phases, covering the stretch inbound Oworonshoki, will be carried out from August 16 to October 5, 2025 (51 days).”

The partial closures will only affect the immediate work areas, which span 50 metres before and after each section under repair.

Alternative Routes:

Phase 1:

Motorists from Iyana Oworo are advised to pass through Gbagada to connect Anthony and access Ikorodu Road for onward journeys.

One lane near the repair area will remain open to traffic.

Phase 2:

Drivers from Eko Bridge should use Funsho Williams Avenue to connect Ikorodu Road.

Osiyemi assured commuters that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to manage traffic and reduce inconveniences throughout the repair period.

He urged motorists to remain patient, noting that the partial bridge closures are necessary to facilitate the replacement of expansion joints by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure (Office of Infrastructure).

“The patience and cooperation of Lagosians are appreciated as we work to improve the state’s road infrastructure for safer and more efficient transportation,” the commissioner added.
