A housing expert, Laja Adeoye, has stressed the urgent need for a robust and effective housing policy in Nigeria to tackle the nation’s housing deficit and promote affordable mass housing development.
Speaking with journalists in Ibadan, Adeoye, who is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Fendini Group, a leading real estate development firm, described current housing policies as outdated and called for pragmatic and strategic reforms to resolve the growing crisis.
“Adequately utilising the housing sector can serve as a vital tool for economic recovery, empower citizens, and reduce unemployment,” he noted.
Adeoye urged government agencies at all levels to collaborate with professional bodies in the built environment and research institutions to develop homegrown solutions that are efficient and sustainable.
Highlighting his firm’s commitment to affordable luxury housing, he showcased Rayfield Gardens City Estate, the company’s flagship project in Ibadan.
He also advocated greater adoption of local building materials, noting increasing public acceptance despite earlier skepticism.
While commending the Oyo State Government for its housing initiatives, Adeoye praised Governor Seyi Makinde for prioritising development:
“We express gratitude to the Oyo State Government for the opportunity to develop Rayfield Gardens City Estate,” he said, emphasising the company’s dedication to meeting deadlines.
“Our aim is to create more luxury properties that cater to homebuyers at affordable rates. Our standard and luxury duplexes incorporate high-quality materials, smart home technology, and thoughtful space planning.”
He described the Rayfield Gardens City Estate project—executed under a Public-Private Partnership with the Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership Agency (OYSIPA)—as one of the safest and most promising investments in the state.
Adeoye encouraged his team to remain steadfast in their mission despite potential challenges:
“While you are doing something good, there will be attempts to sabotage your efforts. People may spread falsehoods out of jealousy, but you must ignore them and continue moving forward.”
“Achieving greater results will ultimately silence your detractors. People only come for you when you are making an impact,” he added.
