ENUGU — The Igwe-elect of Mburubu Ancient Kingdom in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Dr. Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe, has lauded Governor Peter Mbah for transforming Enugu into a security model worthy of emulation by other states in the country.
Speaking with journalists in Enugu on Thursday, Dr. Onuokaibe, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of First Choice Afro Villa Ltd and Mburubu Construction Company, described Governor Mbah as a leader determined to protect lives and restore peace, even in the face of daunting security challenges.
“Enugu was once plagued by fear—night-time movement was a risk, kidnappings were rampant, and economic activity ground to a halt after dusk. But today, the story has changed. Governor Mbah confronted insecurity head-on with technology, infrastructure, and strategic planning,” he said.
Onuokaibe highlighted key milestones in the state’s security reform, including the deployment of smart patrol vans, drones, and rapid-response teams. He noted that areas like the previously dreaded Nike-Ugwogo-Opi Road, once a hotbed for kidnappers, have become safe for travel.
“Before now, that road was a death trap. Today, people drive through it without fear. Also, the infamous Monday sit-at-home orders that crippled Enugu’s economy were boldly addressed. Governor Mbah didn’t just talk—he acted. Now, businesses open on Mondays, schools resume, and people go about their lives,” he stated.
He added that the improved security has reinvigorated the city’s nightlife and encouraged investment. “Go to Ogui Road or Independence Layout, and you’ll see the city alive again. Restaurants are booming, and people are having fun without fear. That’s what peace brings.”
Dr. Onuokaibe, who recently relocated part of his real estate business to Enugu, said his decision was influenced by the governor’s achievements in the security sector. “Nobody invests in an unsafe place. But with over ₦144 billion generated in revenue by the end of 2024, it’s clear that investor confidence has returned.”
He also commended the governor for turning the state into a “massive construction site,” noting that no development would be possible without a secure environment.
“The ongoing projects across Enugu are a direct result of the security foundation Governor Mbah has laid. Contractors can now work without fear. That is why we are proud to stand behind his administration.”
He called on residents to play their part by staying vigilant, reporting suspicious activities, and protecting the peace that has been restored. “The least we can do is to ensure this progress continues. We at First Choice Afro Villa Ltd and Mburubu Construction Company will continue to support and promote his administration.”
Dr. Onuokaibe concluded by reaffirming his unwavering support for Governor Mbah’s leadership and called on other stakeholders to rally behind the administration’s efforts to sustain peace and development in Enugu State.
