Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State
By Idris Salisu, Gusau
The Zamfara State House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Dauda Lawal for the developmental achievements recorded across socio-economic sectors of the state within his two years in office.
During its plenary session, the motion for the vote of confidence was moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Bello Muhammad Mazawaje, and unanimously seconded by the lawmakers. Mazawaje noted that considering the progress made within the two-year period, the Governor deserved full commendation from the House.
According to the lawmakers, Governor Lawal has restored the state’s lost glory in various socio-economic sectors.
While presenting the motion, Hon. Mazawaje stated that for the first time in Zamfara’s history, Gusau, the state capital, is witnessing rapid development. He remarked that anyone who left Gusau three to four years ago would hardly recognize most parts of the city due to the significant transformation.
He further highlighted that with the current wave of infrastructural development, including the ongoing construction of an international airport, even critics and opposition parties acknowledge Governor Lawal’s giant strides.
Several legislators supported the motion, including Deputy Speaker Hon. Adamu Aliyu (Gummi II), Hon. Yakubu Almajir (Bungudu East), Hon. Ibrahim Garba Liman (Gusau II), and Hon. Rilwanu Marafa (Anka), among others.
The lawmakers also commended the Governor for the renovation and upgrade of general hospitals aimed at improving healthcare accessibility and affordability for citizens, as well as the refurbishment of secondary and tertiary institutions across the state.
They pointed out the unprecedented growth in the education sector, which was achieved with the full support and approval of the State Assembly.
The House also praised the Governor for the improvement in security compared to what he inherited from previous administrations. Notably, last Wednesday, Governor Lawal launched 140 operational vehicles and distributed them to security agencies to combat banditry and other forms of crime in the state.
Additionally, the legislators noted that many youths in Zamfara are now engaged in formal activities, creating employment opportunities and contributing to poverty reduction.
The lawmakers urged the people of Zamfara State to continue praying for and supporting Governor Lawal’s administration in its quest to deliver the dividends of democracy to all, regardless of political differences.
