Over 5,800 Nigerians have been reached by Stanbic IBTC Holdings PLC through a far-reaching malaria intervention campaign held across three states to commemorate World Malaria Day 2025.
The initiative, which ran from April 25 to April 30, provided free malaria testing, treatment, education, and long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) to vulnerable communities.
The multi-location outreach began in Nchatancha, Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, continued in Okpanam, Oshimili North LGA of Delta State, and concluded in Wudil Ward, Wudil LGA of Kano State. Beneficiaries received free diagnosis and treatment, as well as preventive resources to guard against the deadly disease.
Speaking during the event, Acting Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Holdings, Mr. Kunle Adedeji, said the organisation’s commitment stems from its drive to foster healthier communities. “We are proud to support World Malaria Day 2025 and contribute to global efforts to control and eliminate malaria.
“Our collaboration with local and health authorities underscores our shared vision of a malaria-free Nigeria.”
This year’s World Malaria Day, marked under the theme “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite,” called for renewed global efforts. Stanbic IBTC’s nationwide response served as a model for corporate responsibility, targeting underserved areas often overlooked in national health interventions.
According to the World Health Organisation, malaria claimed 597,000 lives globally in 2023, with Nigeria accounting for nearly a third of all deaths in Africa. Children under five remain the most vulnerable, representing 76 percent of malaria fatalities in the region. Health workers at the campaign sites emphasised that timely treatment and prevention remain the most effective strategies.
A community health officer in Okpanam, Mrs. Uche Eze, praised the initiative, noting its impact. “Many residents cannot afford regular testing or treatment. This outreach is saving lives.
“It’s also teaching people how to prevent malaria at home.”
Beyond direct healthcare delivery, Stanbic IBTC also used the campaign to raise awareness about environmental practices that reduce mosquito breeding.
The company’s volunteers and partners led public sensitisation sessions on keeping homes and surroundings clean, covering water containers, and using treated nets consistently.
The intervention aligns with broader global health goals and underscores Stanbic IBTC’s role in driving sustainable development.
