…Aircraft Provided Aerial Support in Joint Security Operation, Not Logistic Supply

ABUJA — The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed claims circulating on social media that a police helicopter spotted landing and taking off in Kogi State was supplying logistics to bandits.

The viral video, which sparked public outrage, depicted the helicopter touching down in an area with armed individuals, leading to widespread speculation about its mission.

However, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, clarified on Tuesday that the aircraft was part of a legitimate security operation aimed at providing aerial support and surveillance to ground forces combating criminal activities in the region.

According to Adejobi, the operation was conducted on Saturday, May 10, 2025, by a coalition of joint security forces, including local vigilante groups and hunters in the Obajana axis of Kogi State. The mission was part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality in the state.

“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to address a video currently circulating online, depicting a police helicopter landing and taking off in an area with armed individuals,” Adejobi said.

“Contrary to the misleading and false narrative suggesting that the aircraft was used to deliver food items to bandits, the Force categorically states that the video captures a legitimate security operation.”

The police spokesperson urged members of the public to disregard what he described as “unfounded and mischievous claims” linked to the viral video. He emphasized the importance of relying on official police communication channels for verified information concerning security activities.

“Citizens are encouraged to rely solely on official police communication channels for accurate and verified information regarding security activities,” Adejobi added.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring that it will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to enhance public safety and national security.
