The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Ibadan Branch, will today honor Prince Cletus Ilobanafor, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CEOAfrica, in recognition of his outstanding support for research and community-focused science initiatives in Nigeria.

Ilobanafor will be officially decorated as a “Friend of OWSD” at a ceremony scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), Oyo Road, Ibadan. The event will be hosted by the Director-General of NISER, Prof. Antonia Simbine, and will include a workshop session followed by the award presentation at 11 a.m.

The OWSD, a program unit of UNESCO, brings together female scientists and researchers from leading academic and research institutions including the University of Ibadan, The Polytechnic Ibadan, NIHORT, FRIN, IITA, CRIN, and others. The organization is focused on advancing the role of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), as well as in the social sciences and arts, across developing countries.

According to OWSD Ibadan, Prince Ilobanafor’s contributions have been instrumental in amplifying the organization’s outreach and advocacy efforts, particularly in promoting visibility and recognition for women-led research. In a letter of commendation, OWSD stated that his efforts have “inspired early, mid, and advanced career researchers,” positioning him as a role model for students and scholars alike.

“Prince Ilobanafor has consistently demonstrated a passion for equity in research and media representation. His partnership has strengthened our platforms and empowered numerous researchers—especially women—across Nigeria,” said Prof Aina Adeogun, Chairperson of OWSD Ibadan.

The award is part of a broader initiative by OWSD Ibadan to recognize individuals and organizations that champion inclusive scientific development and contribute meaningfully to community-based research.

Today’s ceremony is expected to draw stakeholders from academia, media, and development sectors, as OWSD continues its mission to foster a robust and inclusive network of researchers in Nigeria and beyond.
