A Nigerian journalist, Raphael Oni, on Wednesday, released three books authored by him, in a bid to add his voice to understanding news reporting on China and Africa in the 21 Century.
The three books, which were unveiled at the Chines Cultural Centre in Abuja, were: Balancing the Narratives: China and Africa in the 21 Century, The Diplomatic Correspondent and The Blueprint: How to write, publish and succeed.
But the focus of the launch of the three books centred on the book on China, which primarily seeks to correct the erroneous impression by the media that China uses its influence to plunge African nation into debts, while portraying itself as a saviour to them.
Oni, who is a diplomatic journalist, uses the book to challenge prevailing stereotypes and misconceptions about China’s role in Africa, insisting that the Asian country represents cooperation, mutual benefit and shared growth rather that what is being presented by the western media.
Oni said in the book, “Balancing the Narratives delves into the intricacies of China-Africa relations, exploring themes such as trade and investment, infrastructure development, cultural exchange and global governance”.
“The book is a must-read for anyone seeking to understand the complexities of China-Africa relations in the 21st century: Whether you are a scholar, policymaker, business leader or simply a curious observer, Balancing the Narrative offers a compelling and thought-provoking narrative that will challenge your assumptions and broaden your perspective,” Oni said.
Many members of the diplomatic corps and the former National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mr. Chris Iziguzo, attended the book launch.
