The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has emphasized the importance of upholding integrity, truth, and unity in student leadership, while condemning attempts to politicize student movements through misinformation and baseless allegations.

In a statement issued by Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan Shoprite, President of NAPS, the association called for accountability and fairness in public discourse concerning student representation and youth advocacy.

Titled “Guardians of Truth: Upholding the Integrity of Student Leadership and the Sanctity of Advocacy,” the statement commended popular activist Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), for his fearless advocacy and commitment to justice.

“Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, stands as a paragon of fearless advocacy and unwavering commitment to justice. His relentless pursuit of truth and his role as a voice for the voiceless resonate deeply within our community,” Oghayan said.

However, the statement also urged VDM to exercise thorough investigation and discretion before making claims that may affect the credibility and unity of student bodies.

“In light of recent events, we urge you to apply the same rigor and thoroughness in investigating claims before drawing conclusions, especially when such matters pertain to the integrity of student leadership and the unity of our community.”

Oghayan referenced the February 20, 2025 NANS convention, where Comrade Olushola Oladoja was unanimously endorsed and later elected as President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). He described the process as democratic, transparent, and reflective of the collective will of Nigerian students.

“The endorsement of Comrade Oladoja followed a transparent and democratic process. His unwavering dedication to student welfare and history of selfless service underscore his suitability for the role.”

Responding to claims disputing the legitimacy of Oladoja’s presidency, NAPS maintained that such assertions were unfounded and harmful to the integrity of student organizations.

The statement also defended Mr. Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, against recent allegations, suggesting that the attacks were politically motivated following VDM’s public praise of him.

“The sudden surge in allegations after VDM acknowledged Seyi Tinubu’s leadership potential suggests a calculated attempt to damage his image and hinder his youth empowerment efforts,” Oghayan said.

He further stated that Seyi Tinubu had shown consistent support for youth and student empowerment without interfering in student affairs.

“As a student leader, I have never witnessed Mr. Tinubu attempting to influence or divide the student body. Instead, his efforts have been focused on empowerment and building bridges between youth and government.”

NAPS reaffirmed its allegiance to authentic student leadership through its parent body, NANS, and called on stakeholders to resist misinformation and political manipulation.

“We stand united in our pursuit of truth, justice, and the empowerment of Nigerian students. Any attempt to destabilize our organizations through misinformation must be strongly condemned.”

The association concluded by urging continued advocacy rooted in truth, integrity, and unity for the progress of student leadership in Nigeria.
