The Lagos State Government has made significant strides in addressing the housing deficit, delivering a total of 9,970 housing units to residents over the past six years. As part of its ongoing efforts, the state government aims to complete 14,022 affordable homes by 2027.
The announcement was made by Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, Commissioner for Housing, during a Ministerial Press Briefing marking the second year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term, held at Alausa, Ikeja.
Akinderu-Fatai highlighted the administration’s commitment to bridging the housing gap, noting that under Sanwo-Olu’s leadership, a comprehensive strategy focused on affordable housing for low-income residents has been implemented. This approach includes budgetary allocations for housing construction, public-private partnerships (PPPs), and the creation of a conducive business environment for real estate developers.
He explained, “The multi-front strategy enables the government to target the accommodation needs of low-income residents, creating an enabling environment for real estate developers through streamlined approval processes, tax incentives, and innovative financing models.”
The commissioner emphasized that this approach has been effective in increasing the stock of decent homes, improving affordability, and stimulating the local economy by generating employment opportunities.
One of the notable projects completed under this initiative is the Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Estate (Cluster 1), which was commissioned in June 2024. This estate comprises 270 two-bedroom apartments, contributing to the 21 housing estates delivered across Lagos since 2019.
Additionally, the administration has provided 3,994 units of one, two, and three-bedroom homes through direct funding, and 5,976 units through PPPs, bringing the total to 9,970 homes delivered over the past six years.
Several housing projects are currently underway, including:

LagosHOMS Sangotedo Phase 2 in Eti-Osa East LCDA, projected to provide 528 units by the third quarter of 2025.

Akinderu-Fatai reiterated the state government’s commitment to completing these projects by the end of 2025, contributing to the goal of 14,022 housing units by the end of the current administration.
Special Allocation for Teachers
In line with the government’s commitment to supporting education professionals, 129 housing units have been allocated to teachers across various educational districts in Lagos.
Akinderu-Fatai expressed his gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his visionary leadership and support for the housing sector, noting that the governor’s dedication has earned him numerous awards and accolades. He also thanked the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and members of the House of Assembly for their support.
The ongoing housing projects and the overall increase in the housing stock in Lagos represent significant progress in addressing the state’s housing deficit and providing affordable homes to residents.
