A Niger Delta activist  Comrade Bene Youkore Mamamu  has enjoined Itsekiri youths to refrain from actions under the guise of protest that could trigger crisis in Warri, Delta state.

Mamamu in an open letter to the National Security Adviser, NSA, Malam Nuhu Ribadu also enjoined the security Chief to prevail on Itsekiri youths to be conscious of the value of peaceful coexistence among all tribes in Warri while carrying out protest.

The open letter partly read: “I write to you today as a concerned citizen and representative of the Ijaws in Ogbe-ljoh, Delta State, with a heavy heart and a deep sense of urgency regarding the recent events surrounding the ward delineation protest by Itsekiris against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“It has come to my attention that this protest has escalated to a point where it is now crossing into Ijaw territories in Warri. This situation is not only alarming but poses a significant threat to the peace and harmony that Ijaws have worked hard to maintain.

“Protests are a fundamental aspect of democracy, but they must be conducted with respect for the rights and territories of others. Acts of  provocations should be avoided in the name of protest because they could trigger crisis.

“It is crucial that their leadership acts responsibly and in the best interest of all stakeholders in the region.

“Any failure to address the underlying issues and hold leaders accountable could lead to a resurgence of violence, which would have devastating consequences for our communities”.

It would be recalled that the Chairman of Warri South local government area, Mr Weyinmi Agbateyiniro on Monday banned rallies and protest in Warri after a security meeting  . A statement from the council  said anyone or persons wanting to protest should seek approval.

” The Warri South Local Government Boss, assured law – abiding citizens in Warri South Local Government Area of his administration’s determination to continually provide enabling environment for legitimate businesses to thrive.”, the statement read.
