A leading African digital payments and commerce company, Interswitch has launched its Electronic Medical Records (EMR) platform, eClinic, at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu, NOHE, marking a major step toward digitalising healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

The launch, was commissioned by the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako.

This deployment makes NOHE the fourth federal health institution to adopt the eClinic platform, following successful rollouts in Osun, Ogun, and Edo States.

Developed by Interswitch’s health-tech subsidiary, eClat, the eClinic solution is designed to streamline hospital operations by providing healthcare professionals with real-time access to patient records. It also supports key functions such as patient registration, diagnostics tracking, pharmacy management, and administrative reporting.

Salako hailed the initiative as a critical enabler in the Federal Ministry of Health’s digital health transformation agenda. “The deployment of EMR systems like Interswitch’s eClinic aligns with our goal of delivering accurate, efficient, and patient-centered care in public hospitals.

“We are committed to working with the private sector to modernise healthcare and build a healthier Nigeria.”

The Minister noted that digital tools such as eClinic reduce administrative burdens on health workers, improve clinical documentation, and offer real-time data that can guide policy decisions and resource planning.

Interswitch Vice President for Health Ecosystem, Public Sector, Mr. Babatunde Fadeyi, said the company’s goal is to bridge technology gaps in healthcare while improving care delivery.

“With eClinic, we are empowering healthcare professionals to work more efficiently and deliver better patient outcomes. This solution is a product of collaboration, innovation, and our continued investment in healthcare transformation,” he said.

Built with Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure in mind, the eClinic platform is equipped to operate both online and offline, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery even in areas with unstable internet connectivity.

The platform’s successful deployment at NOHE follows months of stakeholder engagement, needs assessment, user interface testing, and staff training.

Interswitch says it adapts each rollout to meet the unique needs of each hospital, ensuring that the system is both user-friendly and technically robust.

Looking ahead, Interswitch plans to scale the eClinic platform across more federal and state health institutions. The company also hinted at upcoming enhancements, including AI-powered diagnostic support, health insurance integration, and improved medical supply chain visibility.
With its strategic interventions and tech-driven solutions, Interswitch is cementing its role in shaping a more connected, efficient, and inclusive healthcare system for Nigeria.
