Tha national president of ‘De Imperial Philanthropic Family’ (DIPF), High Chief Dr. Darlington Nwabunike, has bemoaned the low level of educational standard in the country, saying urgent steps need to be taken to salvage the situation.
The philanthropist who holds the title of Ichie Ezenwakaibeya Ogbabalu Aku N’Anwu Ojoto, Anambra State, stated this in Lagos weekend, during the launch of one of DIPF’s big projects, a “N50 Million Scholarship Fund” dedicated to rewarding Nigeria’s top JAMB performers of 2025.
High Chief Nwabunike who took a swipe on the mass failure recorded by candidates in the last Joint Admission and Matriculation Examination Board (JAMB) exams, attributed the failure to the inability of the teachers to imbibe certain core values, educational ideas and principles that supposedly meant to see the students scale through in their exams.
These, according to him, was as a result of lack of motivation on both sides, while tasking both parents, teachers including students to live up to expectations and change the mass failure narrative.
He mentioned that an initiative to upscale teachers values through motivation and incentives is on the pipeline, which will help teachers to reflect quality output and to impart the students positively.
Chief Nwabunike also emphasized the organization’s mission to reduce poverty through education, highlighting that the scholarship is entirely funded by members’ contributions, with no involvement from government or external partners.
“I reiterates here. The organisation is an apolitical organisation without an alignment to any political party or government agencies. It is a body registered under Corporate Affairs Commission as nongovernmental organisations established by group of Southeastern entrepreneurs numbering about 239 members, whose main objective is to eliminate poverty through quality education and funding. It is funded by members alone,” he said.
He announced that the scholarship will support students scoring above 250 in the JAMB exam, with awards structured into two categories, that include a N20 million shared by N500,000 each, for the top performers in each of Nigeria’s thirty six (36) States including Abuja. Also, a N30 million shared by N1,000,000 each, for the 25 best-performing students in the Southeast States in Nigeria.
Also speaking, Chief Chikezie Okonkwo (Akunaetigbuilo na Nawfia), Chairman of the Education Committee, and Ezeh Chinonso (Ezesinachi Ihiala), member of the Education Committee, reiterated that the application and selection process will be free, fair, and open to all eligible students.
“We are doing this to encourage students to get serious with academics and also to know that hard work pays. We want to eliminate laxity and also encourage brilliant students from indigent homes to build more hopes in life success through education. The door is open to every Nigerian JAMB candidate from the 36 States including FCT, Abuja,” the duo said.
Highlighting the application process, Dr. Frank Igbojindu, Akuyienwata Egwu na Okiha and the CEO of Best Brain Contest, expressed confidence in the organization’s scholarship programs and its sustainability, while urging students to apply through the organization’s website.
“This noble initiative underscores De Imperial Philanthropic Family’s commitment to nurturing educational excellence and empowering Nigeria’s youth. Application is already on with the deadline on July 12, 2025. We encourage students to quickly go to the organisation website and social media handles for more information,” he added.
Meanwhile, High Chief Nwabunike whose philanthropic deeds spans, received an award from the chief executive of Akpoazaa Group, Dr. Frank Igbojindu, for his continued humanitarian efforts towards eliminating poverty and quality education funding.
