A journal, Ianna Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies (IJIS), established by Dr Gever Verlumun, a scholar in the Department of Mass Communication, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has maintained its position as Nigeria’s number one journal according to Scimago ranking.
According to data, IJIS garnered a Scimago Journal Rank (SJR) of 0.595 to retain the number one spot. The African Journal of Reproductive Health came a distant second with an SJR score of 0.350, while the Pan African Medical Journal came third with an SJR score of 0.340.
This data, when compared with that of last year, showed that IJIS recorded an increase of SJR from 0.374 to 0.595. Pan African Medical Journal witnessed an SJR increase from 0.323 to 340, but this was not enough for the journal to maintain its second position, as African Journal of Reproductive Health saw a significant increase in its SJR from 0.282 to 0.350 to displace Pan African Medical Journal in the second position.
Apart from maintaining its number one position in Nigeria, IJIS moved from number 47 in the world last year to number 38 out of 209 multidisciplinary journals ranked. The journal is also ranked number 7 out of 239 journals in African in all subjects. Under multidisciplinary category in Africa, IJIS ranked number 1 out of 3 journals in Africa in that category.
In the area of quartile ranking, which indicates where a journal’s ranking lies within a particular subject category, IJIS ranks in the first quartile (Q1) from the second quartile (Q2) last year. Both the African Journal of Reproductive Health and Pan African Medical Journal were ranked in quartile three (Q3). Ikenga journal, though ranked number 12 with SJR of 0.182, was ranked in quartile 1 (Q1) under the literature and theory category. Typically, quartiles rank the journals from highest to lowest based on their impact factor or impact index. There are four quartiles: Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4.
Scimago Journal Rank is a publicly available portal that includes journals and country scientific indicators developed from information contained in the Scopus database (Elsevier B.V).These indicators can be utilised to examine and analyse scientific domains.
