By Peter Duru, Makurdi

The Benue State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Pulic Order, Mr. Fidelis Mnyim is said to have brought innovations and completely reformed the Ministry with the creation of the Directorates of Appeals, Judgment Debts Management, Establishment of the Public Order Directorate and Operation “Save the Benue Child” Initiative.

The reforms and innovations also saw the establishment of Legal Services section in Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, of government.

The Media aide to the Attorney General, Dr  Jacob Iormbagah in a statement in Makurdi while dismissing allegation of incompetence and corruption leveled against the Attorney General explained that in the last two years, the Commissioner had shown exemplary leadership, legal brilliance, and administrative ingenuity in repositioning the Ministry of Justice and strengthening the legal architecture of Benue State.

According to him “under Chief Mnyim’s stewardship, the Ministry has witnessed unprecedented structural innovations, including the creation of the Directorates of Appeals, Judgment Debts Management, and Legal Services in MDAs, establishment of the Public Order Directorate and Operation ‘Save the Benue Child’ Initiative, which are pioneering interventions in Civil order and Child rights.

“He has also sponsored the passage of 10 landmark laws, including the Benue State Persons with Disability Law, Public Procurement (Amendment) Law, State Electricity Law, and the Benue State Electoral Amendment Law, among others.”

Dr. Iormbagah emphasized that the Attorney General stood out among his colleagues in the country in terms of performance pointing out that he also
facilitated the return of “trafficked Benue girls from Edo state and Ivory Coast, and  revived the State’s Human Trafficking Taskforce, as well as championed the establishment of the State Mining Marshals to curb illegal mining in the state.

“These initiatives proves his commitment to the protection of the vulnerable which has been candidly championed by the Governor of Benue State.”

He noted that contrary to allegations of inaction, the Attorney General’s role at the Body of Benchers and Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee further reflected his national relevance and commitment to upholding the sanctity of the legal profession.

He recalled how Mr. Mnyim took up and won the 36 cases filed against the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its candidates by its opponents prior to the 2023 general elections which paved the way for the party to field candidates in 2023 polls. “These are clear precedence and evidence of his commitment to protecting the interest of the State, the Governor, and that of the party.”

He appealed to the people to ignore the  campaign of calumny aimed at rubbishing the qualities and accomplishments of the Attorney General who had refused to be distracted by such.
