APC stakeholders counsel Senator Eteng, pledge support ahead of 2027

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the old Ikom division have advised Senator Eteng Jonas Williams, representing the Central Senatorial District, ahead of the 2027 general elections. They pledged their full support for his second term bid while urging him to step up his performance, particularly in the equitable distribution of constituency projects.

The stakeholders, comprising party chieftains from Ikom, Etung, and Boki local government areas, met at the residence of Chief Ebuta Ayuk in Effraya, Etung LGA, where they voiced concerns over the lopsided distribution of constituency projects. They called on the Senator to ensure every ward and unit benefits from the dividends of democracy.

Representatives from the 32 wards of the division unanimously agreed on the need for unity and equity within the Central Senatorial District and encouraged Senator Eteng to engage more deeply with grassroots stakeholders.

Speaking on behalf of the Etung stakeholders, Hon. Bisong Achon, a former member of the House of Assembly, and Dr. Inok Kuti Ebak, former Chairman of Etung Council, praised Senator Eteng for convening the meeting. They urged him to work closely with relevant stakeholders and ensure that each ward feels the impact of his representation.

They described the Senator as “water that has no enemy” but advised him to double his efforts in delivering tangible benefits to the people.

Representatives from Ikom LGA, including Francis Bojor Ndifon, Paul Agbor Ogar, and Moses Edim, urged the Senator to improve his community engagement by attending local events and remaining accessible to constituents. They emphasized the importance of collaboration in executing empowerment programs and addressing security concerns, particularly the infiltration of Fulani miners and herders into forest areas.

The Ikom stakeholders also called for youth empowerment initiatives to combat rising unemployment.

Boki LGA leaders, Rev. Dr. Chris Bisong and Chief Agbor Edun, stressed the need for inclusive development and commended the Senator for personally engaging with constituents during the Easter season. Abu Rita Obi, representing the Boki women’s group, appealed for increased involvement of women in political activities and decision-making.

Hon. Cyril Omin of the Yakurr 1 State Constituency highlighted the importance of continuity, noting that Senator Eteng had only been in office for two years, with six months lost to litigation. He urged all stakeholders to support the Senator’s reelection, stating, “If he fails, Yakurr has failed. The devil we know is better than the angel we don’t.”

Chief Ebuta Ayuk, hosting the meeting, praised the stakeholders for speaking candidly, emphasizing the strength and unity of the Central Senatorial District within the APC. He encouraged reconciliation and support for Senator Eteng, stating, “From today, everything old has passed away. We are going to have a brand-new Senator Eteng.”

In response, Senator Eteng Jonas Williams expressed gratitude for the honest feedback and pledged to address all concerns. He announced plans to hold quarterly meetings for improved communication and collaboration with stakeholders.

“I am one of you. Let us work together as Central and move forward,” he said.

As part of his Easter outreach, the Senator disclosed that he had mobilized a contractor to build a toilet for the Ikom police station and paid over N3 million in hospital bills for patients at Holy Family Hospital, Ikom.
