UNIBEN alumni in UK laud Okepbholo’s appointment

BENIN CITY – THE University of Benin Alumni Association United Kingdom (UBAAUK) has lauded the appointed of its current President, Dr. Loretta Oduware Ogboro-Okor by Governor Monday Okpebholo as the Director-General of the Edo State Diaspora Agency (ESDA.

In a statement signed by UBAAUK Secretary, Pharm. Augustine Iremiran, and made available to journalists in Benin City described Ogboro-Okor’s appointment as “well-deserved,” lauding her as “a beacon of excellence, a distinguished medical professional, an advocate for humanitarian causes, and a global leader committed to the welfare of Edo indigenes across the world.”

The statement highlighted the new ESDA DG’s extensive credentials, noting that she is a United Kingdom-trained Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, a Medical Simulator Expert, and a United Nations Eminent Ambassador. It also praised her past leadership roles, including her tenure as President of UBAAUK and her contributions as lead of the Edo Diaspora Working Group.

“Her track record of leadership, particularly as the President of UBAAUK and lead of the Edo Diaspora Working Group, is a clear testament to her visionary and result-driven approach to governance,” the statement read.

“She has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the progress of Edo people in the diaspora and beyond,” Pharm. Iremiran added.

“As she embarks on this new journey, UBAAUK pledges her full support and collaboration to ensure the success of the Edo State Diaspora Agency.

“We are confident that under her leadership, the agency will thrive and further strengthen the bond between Edo State and its sons and daughters across the world,” the statement added.

Dr. Ogboro-Okor, a former governorship aspirant in the 2024 Edo election, has been actively involved in Diaspora affairs and human rights advocacy. Her appointment is expected to bring life to the Edo State Diaspora Agency, which was established to cater to the affairs of Edo indigenes living abroad.
