By Jimitota Onoyume

Niger Delta Youth Council, NDYC, has  called on President Bola Tinubu to take decisive steps  to end the political crisis in Rivers state, saying he should also halt any impeachment move against Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers state by lawmakers loyal to his Minister of Federal capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.

In a statement , president of the group Comrade Bene Youkore Mamamu said  the political crisis in Rivers state could provoke another round of crisis in the region that may affect oil production if urgent steps were.not taken to redress the issue.

The group also called on the Minister of FCT, Wike to retract his alleged unpalatable remarks against the Ijaw ethnic group, adding that effort should be made to make the  state enjoy federal allocation due it from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

His words : “We are angry that Tinubu’s government has emboldened Wike to undermine Ijaws, with regular threats to impeach Governor Fubara. The state’s  allocation has been seized , and Ijaw nation been described  as  minority within minorities ‘

“The way things are going in Rivers  if unchecked could trigger crisis that may affect oil production in the region. Federal government should act quick to save the situation.

” Threats to attack oil facilities over the political crisis in Rivers is growing daily. Such a move could have dire consequences for Nigeria’s already fragile economy.

“The oil that fuels this nation flows from our land, the fourth largest and most populated ethnic group in Nigeria and we will not allow Wike undermine Ijaw history.”
