United States: After assuming the office of US President, Donald Trump undertook extensive decisions and policies that profoundly impacted the global political, economic and social landscape. Now, he has adopted a new approach and shifted his vision, majorly focused on the strategies for environmental protection, sustainable initiatives and mitigation plans for climate change.

The change in his approach was widely hinted by his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He pointed out the major concerns and issues that were caused by the war between Russia and Ukraine and revealed his intention of calling for an end to the war. In several interviews, President Trump talked about his intention of saving resources, finances andthe environment that were challenged by the war.

In February 2025, President Trump mentioned in an interview that he could end the war in a day, pointing out the war’s mounting costs which is resulting in the deterioration of the resources and environment.

President Donald Trump’s steps towards environmental protection

When the war started in 2022, the United States has decided to spend US$350 billion to support Ukraine, however, President Trump now has criticized the previous administration policies and said that the money and the resources have been wasted in the war.

He stressed that United States have spent money in billions and if the money is being spend on other developmental and sustainable initiatives, then the environment would have been benefited.

President Trump voiced for the peaceful environment and mentioned that the war could only lead to the wastage of resources and money that could be used for conservation efforts and mitigation strategies for carbon footprints.

In several interviews, he called the need to stop the war and said, “Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians.” He said that his administration will work to foster a peaceful environment   by stressing that America is there to maintain sovereignty and independence.

President Trump added, “I have received strong signals from Ukraine that they are ready for peace. Wouldn’t that be beautiful. It’s time to stop this madness, it’s time to halt the killings, its’ time to end the senseless war.”

He condemned the war and said that there is need to protect the environment by stopping the war as sustainability is the future which will enhance the survival of humans. With his approach, President Trump has been seeking plans to implement resilience and sustainable future by spending funds and resources on halting carbon footprints.

In addition to that, his approach also indicated that the money that was spent on the war would be useful to protect the environment. Several experts in the industry added that if only US 1 billion of the war amount has been given to the Caribbean nations, they would have revolutionized the concept of resilience and green energy and paved the path of sustainability to protect the environment.

Experts added that instead of funding the destructive war, the money should be spent on the strategies that are taken by Caribbean as they would turn the amount into positive strides in the sustainable and conservation efforts.

At several stages, President Trump has voiced for the protection of the environment and gave a massive push to the idea of the green energy. He even criticized and mocked the idea of sustainable and green military tanks, highlighting his shifting and progressive attitude towards the environment.

He added, “ You know, we make the greatest tanks in the world. Army tanks. Because the tanks, if they’re electric, you go into a country blasting the hell out of it, but at least we’re doing it in an environmentally friendly way.”

As part of President Trump’s sustainable efforts, he also raised questions on the longstanding US defense pacts including agreements with Japan. President Trump mentioned that there is need to reevaluate these commitments that could free up resources for development rather than war. He called it “nonreceiprocal” and said that the treaty should be reconsider.

Hence, the policies and the vision of President Trump has been marking progressive approach towards the environment and sustainability.
