ThriveBold, a platform founded by Ruth Chigbo, has partnered with STEMi Makers of Africa to empower young African females aged 15-32 with actionable ideas.
STEMi Makers of Africa, an international nonprofit organization, fosters inclusion, innovation, and the empowerment of societies through technical skills and STEM learning resources. The organization aims to help young people succeed, transition to self-reliance, and become problem-solvers for Africa’s economy. STEMi Makers is based in the United States, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and the United Kingdom.
Addressing the media about the project, the organizer explained that the program aims to empower young women in Africa with various skills.
“The ‘I AM GASA’ (Girl Accelerating Sustainable Action) Competition aims to empower young women in Africa to accelerate sustainable action and emerge as leaders in their communities. The competition invites young women to showcase their projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“The competition will recognize the top 4 participants, who will receive cash prizes ($400, $300, $200, and $100), 1:1 mentorship sessions with esteemed professionals, media publication features, and recognition certificates.”
Speaking on how to apply, the organizers noted: “Applicants must be young women aged 15-32 from diverse backgrounds in Africa. Fill out the application form using the QR code. Submit a 2-minute video showcasing your sustainable action project or idea.
“The competition is focused on young women and girls. The initiative aims to empower and support young women in Africa, who are often underrepresented in leadership positions and sustainable development efforts, aligning with the International Women’s Day theme of accelerating action.”
Collectively, THRIVEBold and STEMi Makers of Africa’s efforts revealed that their partnership stems from their shared vision. The initiative’s goal is to support sustainable development and women’s empowerment in Africa.
The organization reiterated that the competition will continue to be an annual initiative, with the current application deadline set for March 26, 2025.
