
In commemoration of the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD), the Association of Chinese Women in Nigeria has commended women for their resilience, hard work, and achievements.
The event, held at the South East Asia Music Restaurant in Lagos, was graced by women from all walks of life.
With the event themed ‘For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment’, the association used the occasion to distribute food supplies worth N400,000 each to 20 low income families through the Charity Programme jointly initiated by the Chinese Consulate in Lagos and the Chinese community.
The initiative tagged, ‘Together Fight Against Hunger’, which was led by the Chinese Consul General and the Chinese Community, was set up to support families in need and combat hunger.
Speaking at the event, the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing, lauded women’s indispensable role in society.
Yuqing said: “Women are the pillars of the home and society, we are proud to stand with women on this special day. Our collective strength and determination drive progress and inspire future generations. Women must be supported in order to strengthen the families, foster stability, and build a brighter future for all.
“The Together Fight Against Hunger charity program embodies our shared commitment to leaving no one behind, by addressing hunger and poverty, we create a foundation for the society to thrive, we hope to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families in need, and also to continue the good relationship between China and Nigeria.”
Also speaking, the President of the Association of Chinese Women in Nigeria, Zhou Jun, advocated support for women to uplift the families and the communities.
Jun said: “Today, we honour the strides made by women, but we also recognize the gaps that remain. Empowerment begins with meeting basic needs, by addressing hunger and poverty, we create a foundation for women to thrive, lead, and claim their rightful place in society.”
Similarly, the adviser of the Association, Loi Eng-koon, said: “The International Women’s Day reminds us of the remarkable achievements of women and the challenges we continue to face. Our commitment to supporting women and families is unwavering. Let us continue to uplift one another and work towards a future of equality and empowerment.”
Meanwhile, the President of International Women’s Society Nigeria, Olufunke Oduwole commended the Association of Chinese Women in Nigeria and the Chinese Consulate for their support to humanity.
