The Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association, NAOWA, Akwa Ibom State Chapter has re-affirmed its dedication and commitment to the empowerment and wellbeing of women.
This was contained in a statement signed by Lieutenant Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, David Adejimi and made available to journalists on Sunday in Uyo.
According to the Zonal Coordinator Mrs. Anne Omoh Tawasimi who spoke while addressing participants during the 2025 International Women’s Day(IWD)
emphasized the vital role of empowering women through education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
“She reiterated NAOWA’s dedication to providing healthcare, educational opportunities, and humanitarian services, underlining that the association’s efforts are not merely celebratory but actively work to support women in all aspects of their lives”, the statement stressed.
It noted that the NAOWA marked the 2025 International Women’s Day with a series of impactful programmes beginning with a visit to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital’s (UUTH) maternity ward on Thursday, 6 March led by the zonal coordinator.
According to the statement, at the UUTH Tawasimi presented essential maternity supplies to Mrs Nse Obong Nkietma the wife of Sergeant Nkietma Asuquo serving in 29 Battalion Port Harcourt who recently gave birth to quadruplets, and also extended the generosity to other mothers who gave birth in the ward.
It added that, Mrs. Tawasimi also spearheaded a cancer awareness campaign at 6 Battalion, Ibagwa, on March 7th, stressing, “This crucial initiative aimed to educate women, particularly within military communities, about breast and cervical cancer, emphasizing early detection and prevention strategies.
“The campaign incorporated informative health talks by medical professionals, free screenings, and interactive sessions focused on maintaining healthy lifestyles to minimize cancer risks”
The statement further noted that the event featured special lecture on March 8th, that addressed the multifaceted roles of women in nation-building, and highlighted the importance of self-care, personal development among others.
