In a significant step towards bridging the energy gap in rural Nigeria, Darway Coast, in partnership with All On and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), has officially launched the Ibaragun mini-grid project. This groundbreaking initiative, powered by a 500KW solar mini-grid, is set to transform the lives of thousands of residents in Ibaragun, Ogun State.
The project, financed by All On through its Demand Aggregation for Renewable Technology (DART) programme, delivers consistent and eco-friendly electricity, marking a major leap in sustainable energy solutions for underserved communities. Engineered to provide reliable power while minimizing carbon emissions, the mini-grid underscores the commitment to environmental sustainability and economic development.
“The completed Ibaragun mini-grid project will deliver immediate and lasting benefits to the community through reliable, clean energy,” stated Henry Ureh, CEO of Darway Coast, an indigenous renewable energy company. The project highlights Darway Coast’s dedication to enhancing energy access in Nigeria’s rural regions.
All On, an impact investing company, played a pivotal role in facilitating the project. Caroline Eboumbou, CEO of All On, emphasized the company’s commitment to “fueling economic growth, enhancing livelihoods, and reducing the environmental impact of energy consumption.”
The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) also lauded the project’s impact. Fauzia Okediji, Manager, Utility Innovation at GEAPP, remarked, “The Ibaragun mini-grid demonstrates that transformative impact is possible when collective ambition, capital and innovative technologies align. Our alliance approach boosts energy access and drives climate-aligned growth.” Okediji highlighted the DART programme’s role in scaling distributed renewable energy (DRE) solutions, creating economic opportunities across Nigeria and the continent.
The Ibaragun mini-grid project is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovative financing in driving sustainable development. With reliable, cost-effective electricity now available, the community is poised for enhanced economic activity, improved public services and a brighter future.
