The Vice Chancellor of Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, Prof. Clement Kolawole, has charged newly-admitted students of the institution not to waste time pursuing frivolous things, but to squarely face their studies.

He spoke on Thursday during the seventh matriculation ceremony of the university.

The VC also advised the students to avoid peer pressure and procrastination in attending to issues relating to their studies and lives in general.

” I would title my speech as “Take care of little foxes.” You are lucky to be here because last year, about 1.9 million candidates wrote the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, UTME and less than 49 percent secured admission to various institutions in the country. This year, we learned that over 2.2 million have applied and those to be admitted might not be more than 40 percent too.

“If you are now here, it is your duty not to waste the opportunity you have been given. Don’t waste time on frivolous things and exercises. Don’t be ignorant of rules and regulations guiding your studentship. Don’t fall for needless peer pressure. Social vices and anti-social behaviours are not allowed, ” he said.

Kolawole disclosed that new course such as Logistics and Supply Management, Cyber security Studies and Biochemistry would be introduced next session, as approvals have been secured from relevant authorities.

The Pro-Chancellor, Pastor Samuel Olatunji, thanked parents and guardians for entrusting their wards into the care of the university.

He promised that Trinity University would impact their lives positively.

In the matriculation lecture delivered by the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, she posited that though people can acquire knowledge from different sources, a school is a sure place to do so.

She urged the students to pursue creativity with passion and that they must also be ready to engage in personal development.
