Ado-Ekiti—Residents of Glorious Road 3 and 4 Avenue, Ita-Eku, off Igirigiri Road, Odo-Ado, Ado Ekiti, have deserted the community following the tragic death of an officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, ASP Leramo Caleb, and his wife, Taiwo Leramo.
The couple had hacked each other to death in the early hours of Tuesday, Caleb’s private part was allegedly severed by his wife, while he retaliated by hacking her head with heavy blows of machetes.
During a visit to the scene, Vanguard observed that the house and surrounding buildings were completely deserted, with fresh bloodstains visible at the entrance of the deceased’s residence.
Inside the house, blood was splattered all over the floor and the sitting room contained plates with leftover food.
It took about thirty minutes to find a community member who eventually led journalists to the home of the Chairman of the Landlord Association in the area.
Speaking with journalists, Chief Samuel Babalola described the incident as disturbing, noting that no one could have predicted such a tragedy.
He said he knew Caleb as a quiet and easygoing person who rarely interacted with others beyond his workplace.
When asked if any previous issues had been reported, Babalola stated that he had neither witnessed violent disagreements between the couple nor received any complaints.
His words, “It was around 7 a.m. when a woman, a member of the Landlord Association of the community, came to report to me that ASP Leramo Caleb and his wife were fighting, and suddenly, both lost their lives.
“Immediately, my Vice Chairman and I went to the Police Station along Poly Road, Odo-Ado, to report the matter to the Nigeria Police Force.
“The police responded promptly, arriving with their vehicle to convey the remains of ASP Leramo to the mortuary.
“I had never heard of them fighting. Perhaps they had disagreements sometimes, but that is normal in any relationship.
“Caleb used to attend our meetings because he was the landlord of that house. I knew him as a police officer—quiet and not very social.”
