Uyo — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has clarified that a trending video showing police personnel allegedly molesting a pregnant woman is unrelated to the ongoing enforcement of Third Party Vehicle Insurance in the state.
The video, which sparked widespread outrage among Akwa Ibom residents, was shared on social media with claims that the incident was linked to the enforcement of the vehicle insurance policy.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Tifon John, debunked the allegations, confirming that the incident in the video occurred in the past and had no connection to vehicle insurance enforcement.
John told Vanguard, “That video is an old clip from a past incident. It has nothing to do with Vehicle Insurance enforcement. Those sharing it are just being mischievous.
“Let me also tell you that there’s another video they won’t post. We have it. There is something the woman did. I can tell you the husband came to apologize, and we have the videos and evidence.”
He further emphasized that the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Bala Mohammed Azare, is committed to safeguarding lives and property with a human-centered approach.
John noted that CP Azare had taken proactive measures to sensitize the public through extensive consultations, stakeholder engagements, and enlightenment campaigns to prevent infractions and abuse of power by police operatives during the enforcement of the vehicle insurance policy.
