In a bid to preserve and promote Nigeria’s rich artistic heritage, the National Gallery of Art (NGA) and Atsur Technologies Ltd have signed an agreement to create a digital archive for 3,000 Nigerian masterpieces, ensuring global accessibility.

Under the agreement, recently signed in Abuja, Atsur will develop a comprehensive system to catalogue and manage NGA’s vast collection. This system will facilitate accurate tracking, organization, and retrieval of digital assets, making the gallery’s resources more accessible for research, education, and public engagement.

The project will also establish a secure API to provide public access to selected works, boosting global visibility and appreciation of Nigerian art. The platform will enable audiences worldwide to explore and engage with Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

The partnership will be showcased through media campaigns and events aimed at increasing public awareness and fostering a deeper appreciation of Nigerian art, both locally and internationally.

Expressing enthusiasm about the collaboration, Atsur’s Chief Executive Officer, Adaobi Orajiaku, said, “We are honored to collaborate with the National Gallery of Art to bring Nigeria’s artistic treasures to a global audience.”

Director-General of NGA, Mr. Ahmed Sodangi, emphasized the significance of the initiative:

“This partnership reflects our commitment to leveraging technology for cultural preservation and accessibility. It marks a significant step in modernizing our collection management and expanding the reach of Nigerian art. We look forward to the opportunities this partnership will create for artists, researchers, and art enthusiasts worldwide.”

The National Gallery of Art, a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, is dedicated to promoting modern Nigerian art and preserving its creative spirit.

Atsur Technologies Ltd, a leader in art authentication and blockchain technology in the African art market, will play a pivotal role in the project.

The initial partnership is set for two years, with the possibility of renewal based on mutual agreement.
