To ensure community health, the General Hospital Mushin, in collaboration with the Chairman of the Executive Council of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, LCDA, has launched a comprehensive medical outreach aimed at promoting the health and well-being of residents.
The initiative, held at the Ojuwoye Market targeting over 1000 residents and traders is a part of the hospital’s ongoing commitment to providing accessible healthcare services to underserved communities.
The outreach offered a wide array of services including obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, family planning, immunisation, general surgery, ophthalmology, dental, and physiotherapy among others.
Addressing journalists at the event, the Medical Director of General Hospital Mushin, Dr Oluyemi Taiwo emphasised the hospital’s goal of taking healthcare directly to the grassroots.
“We are not waiting for people to come into the hospital. We are bringing all the services we offer, including obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, family planning, immunisation, general surgery, ophthalmology, dental care, and physiotherapy, right to the community.”
The outreach tagged: “Your Health Our Passion” is designed to address a broad spectrum of health needs, offering free consultations, medical screenings, and medications. “This is a no-cost event,” Taiwo stated. “Residents simply walk in, get registered, have their vital signs checked, and meet with general doctors who will guide them to specialized care as needed. We even have free glasses for those in need, thanks to our ophthalmologists and optometrists.”
The event is particularly timely, given the upcoming Ramadan season. “We want to ensure that people are healthy and fit to partake in this religious observance,” Taiwo added. “We are here to educate the community, provide resources, and ensure that everyone has access to the medical care they need.”
She announced that the free medical outreach is open to all, from newborns to adults, with services for pregnant women, children, and individuals with specific healthcare concerns such as hypertension, diabetes, and vision problems.
Taiwo stressed the importance of preventative care, noting that the most common ailments in the community are lifestyle-related conditions like hypertension and diabetes.
Taiwo also noted the hospital’s commitment to continuous improvement and empowerment of its healthcare professionals.
“We ensure that our staff is trained and well-equipped to deliver top-notch care with empathy and compassion. This outreach is just one example of our ongoing efforts to serve the community and improve public health.”
Explaining that the outreach was part of a broader strategy by the hospital and local government to provide regular healthcare services to residents, she said: “This isn’t a one-off event. We are planning additional outreach programs, such as the Back to School Outreach in the coming months, to ensure that children are prepared for the new school year with proper health checks.”
For those unable to attend the event, Taiwo reassured the community that General Hospital Mushin remains open and fully operational, with ongoing programs aimed at addressing a range of health concerns.
“Whether you’re experiencing symptoms or just need a regular check-up, General Hospital Mushin is here to provide the care you need. It’s open for all and it’s at no cost to any participant. We have drugs. We have glasses. There are free glasses to go home with.”
Speaking, the Executive Chairman of the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Hon. Rasaq Olusola Ajala also praised the initiative, recognising it as a fulfillment of the government’s responsibility to secure the well-being of its citizens.
“This is a demonstration of our commitment to the health and welfare of the people. The hospital’s dedication to our community is unparalleled, and we’re grateful for their ongoing efforts to make healthcare accessible to everyone.”
Razaq also shared the council’s ongoing development projects, such as the expansion of healthcare facilities, the construction of roads, and other initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
“Our goal is to make sure every segment of the community has access to quality healthcare, and we are continuously working to improve our services.”
