The 67th Grammy Awards may have come and gone, but some of the big moments that made the music’s biggest night unforgettable in the minds of those who graced the event or watched it in the comfort of their homes will linger for a long time.
One of such big moments was the red-carpet event, where the attendees unleashed their fashion prowess on the onlookers. This year, it was all about the weird appearance of Kanye West and his wife, Bianca Censori who suddenly stopped everyone on the red-carpet so that they could walk with gaiety.
But besides Censori’s disgusting look, Nigerian superstars didn’t disappoint on the red-carpet. From Tems, Yemi Alade to Rema and Asake, the superstars made a bold fashion statement that resonated with their fans across the world. They looked awesome in their ravishing outfits. Tems went for a custom Robert Wun Couture look, while Yemi Alade stunned in a traditional Edo attire that celebrated her heritage.
Alade’s regal gown featured intricate beadwork and dramatic wave-like pleats that cascaded down into a statement mermaid-style train. She paired the look with traditional coral bead accessories, including a layered necklace, matching bracelets, and an intricately styled beaded crown.
Her look was more than just an outfit, she was celebrating African heritage, culture, and the global rise of Afrobeats. And many doffed their caps for Mama Africa, who uses her music and outfits to promote African culture and tradition.
On her part, Tems’ dramatic black and gold ensemble gave her away as someone who had a pre-knowledge of what the night had in store for her, as she took home the Best African Music Performance award. The shimmering structured top, flowing stole, and black signature draped skirt exuded queen energy, perfectly matching the statue she left with. Her fashion elevated her status as a Grammy winner. The same goes to first-time Grammy nominees Rema and Asake. Rema kept it cool, simple, and luxurious, staying true to his signature cozy style. His outfit combined elements of street-wear with high fashion, featuring a mix of textures and a monochromatic theme. At the heart of his look was a black leather jacket with quilted detailing on the sleeves, adding depth and a touch of opulence. Underneath, he wore a sleek black shirt tucked into glossy dark trousers, striking the perfect balance between relaxed and refined. A dark-coloured cap added a casual yet stylish touch, tying the whole ensemble together. His accessories were sleek and expensive. A pair of round dark sunglasses added a cool, mysterious edge, perfectly complementing his fashion-forward persona. He completed the look with a luxury wristwatch, chunky silver rings, and a statement bracelet, just the right amount of sparkle to elevate the entire outfit. Asake stepped out in a complete camo outfit, looking simple, exuding elegance and posh on the red carpet.
