..2400-capacity centre harbours 2828 inmates

THE Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri Lagos, has urged wealthy Nigerians to be more charitable to prisoners and contribute to the efforts of the government to make them better citizens.
Mrs Adebukola Kuku, welfare officer of the centre made the appeal while conducting a team of Forsman and Bordenfors, F&B, Group round the facility, yesterday.
The F&B Group donated bags of rice, and garri, kegs of palm oil and beverages to the inmates.
Currently, the 2400-capacity medium custodial facility has 2,828 inmates made up of 2,286 awaiting trial, 518 convicted, 19 lifer, 5 death row, 45 court, 8 Lodgers and 2 out hospital.
At the ICT Hub donated by Anchor Heritage Initiative where no fewer than 12 inmates were writing the National Open University of Nigeria.NOUN, CBT examination, Mr Tony Eyo and Mrs Kuku, who are in charge of welfare, said: “On behalf of the inmates and all of us, we thank F&B Group for remembering and visiting us with food items and gifts. God will bless and provide for you.”
Asked things that the centre needs, they said: “We need a bigger space for the inmates to study. We teach Graphics design, programming in python, computer appreciation, photography, web design and development. Many inmates want to study up to Masters level. We need a bigger space for the programmes.”
F&B Team Leader, Mrs Francisca Ndujihe, said the visit was part of the group’s efforts to alleviate poverty globally adding that no fewer than two million Nigerians were already fully employed by F&B.
