The Kaduna State Government has resolved a long-standing dispute with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) by releasing N548 million to the NUT Endwell Fund.
Governor Uba Sani directed the immediate release of the funds and assured teachers of continued support.
Malam Mubarak Mohammed, the Acting Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), confirmed the resolution during his remarks.
“I am pleased to announce that Governor Uba Sani has successfully resolved the long-standing dispute between the Kaduna State Government and the NUT regarding the NUT Endwell Fund,” he stated.
He explained that the NUT Endwell Fund represents statutory deductions from teachers’ salaries meant to support them during service and retirement.
The dispute was resolved after a series of negotiations between the state government and the NUT. Under the agreement, all litigation related to the NUT Endwell Fund will be discontinued, and the fund will now be managed independently by the NUT.
“The NUT Endwell Scheme will undergo structural reforms to ensure improved efficiency and accountability,” Mohammed added.
He praised Governor Uba Sani for his commitment to education and teacher welfare since assuming office in May 2023. The governor’s efforts have included enhancing access to quality education, increasing enrollment and retention of pupils, and improving learning conditions in both primary and secondary schools.
“Governor Uba Sani’s role in resolving this protracted issue is a testament to his exemplary leadership and commitment to fairness, justice, and the overall development of Kaduna State,” he said.
Comrade Ibrahim Dalhatu, Chairman of the NUT in Kaduna State, expressed delight over the development, emphasizing that the released N548 million would significantly improve the welfare of teachers.
“We are grateful to Governor Uba Sani for his commitment to resolving this dispute. The release of the N548 million to the NUT Endwell Fund is a significant milestone in our efforts to improve the welfare of teachers in Kaduna State,” Dalhatu said.
The resolution is expected to strengthen the relationship between the Kaduna State Government and the NUT while enhancing the overall quality of education in the state.
