Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, has commended Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatization and Senator representing Abia North (APC), for his remarkable contributions to the constituency. Uchendu expressed his commitment to mobilizing strong support for Kalu’s re-election bid when the time comes.
Hon. Uchendu, an influential APC stakeholder, made these remarks in a video clip shared on Senator Kalu’s official social media platform.
Speaking in the video, Uchendu highlighted Senator Kalu’s outstanding performance and positive impact on the lives of the people of Abia North. He thanked the former Governor of Abia State for his efforts in attracting developmental projects, such as the Ndi Orieke Road, and for delivering many dividends of democracy to the Senatorial District since assuming office in 2019.
“When Senator Kalu decides to contest in 2027, I will mobilize a formidable support base to ensure he clinches the party ticket and wins the general election for Abia North Senatorial District,” Uchendu declared.
As a representative of Ohafia, Uchendu used the opportunity to appeal to Senator Kalu for urgent intervention in resolving the persistent electricity challenges in the area. According to Uchendu, efforts to restore electricity during his tenure as Deputy Speaker were unsuccessful, and subsequent attempts by others have also failed.
“I appeal to His Excellency to come to our immediate rescue and help restore electricity to Ohafia. This issue has been a nightmare for us. I am confident that when Senator Kalu receives this message, he will intervene and bring a solution to our electricity problem,” he said.
Uchendu also praised Kalu for being recognized as the “Best Performing Senator” by the National Assembly Press Corps for three consecutive years. He noted that Kalu’s tenure has brought transformative change to Abia North, with significant projects and initiatives including:
Thousands of scholarships for Abia North and Nigerian students to study medicine and surgery both locally and abroad.
Distribution of educational materials, such as textbooks, exercise books, and school bags.
Construction of over 100 roads, 80 schools, and 30 health centers.
Distribution of farming and processing equipment, fertilizers, motorcycles, sewing and grinding machines, generators, and wheelbarrows.
Advocacy for large-scale agriculture to improve livelihoods in the region.
“Thank you, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, for the Ndi Orieke Road and all the good things you have done for Abia North. I pray that God continues to bless and protect you as you serve our people,” Uchendu added.
In conclusion, Uchendu reassured Kalu of unwavering support from Ohafia and the entire Abia North constituency. “Even if you seek a third term, I will support you and mobilize others to do the same. But please, His Excellency, help us resolve the electricity crisis in Ohafia. Once again, thank you for all your efforts, and may God bless you.”
