By Ndahi Marama, Maiduguri

The Borno State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safety and security during the Yuletide season.

This assurance follows the arrest of 23 suspects found in possession of dangerous weapons, drugs, and other substances.

The arrest was detailed in a statement released by the Borno Police Command Spokesman, DSP Kenneth Daso, on Monday.

“On December 15, 2024, at about 1800HRS, the Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) conducted a raid in a known black spot at Texaco area along Baga Road, Maiduguri, and arrested 19 suspects. The suspects were found with 118 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 196 pieces of Zola tablets, 1 bottle of a ‘suck and die’ substance, and a bunch of charms.”

In a separate operation on the same day, the Command’s Anti-Vice Patrol team arrested four additional suspects in Gamboru, Old Maiduguri, and Lamisula areas. The suspects were found in possession of two knives and two wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The case is still under investigation, and the suspects will be charged to court once the investigation is concluded.

Daso emphasized the Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and security, warning criminal elements to desist from their unlawful activities or face the full consequences of the law.
