German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday night, marking the beginning of a significant state visit scheduled to last until December 12, 2024.
Steinmeier was welcomed at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

During his visit, the German leader is expected to hold discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Alieu Omar Touray.
The itinerary also includes a visit to Lagos, where Steinmeier will interact with business leaders, visit a start-up hub, and engage with prominent figures from Nigeria’s cultural and civil society sectors, including Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka.
Additionally, Steinmeier will tour Lagos to explore the urban development of the megacity, addressing environmental and social challenges as part of the visit’s focus on strengthening bilateral relations and collaboration.
