Dosh Lowkee launches Community Football Tournament season 3 in Lagos, Nigeria

By Ayo Onikoyi

Dosh Lowkee, a passionate supporter of grassroots sports, officially launched the season 3 of his community football tournament this past weekend right here in Lagos. It’s the kind of event that makes you feel proud to be a part of this vibrant city—local talent, cheering crowds, and a shared love for the beautiful game all coming together under the Lagos sun.

The tournament, which started on Saturday, is scheduled to run over the next few weeks, bringing together teams from various neighbourhoods. It’s not just about football, though; it’s about community. Dosh Lowkee, who is known for inspiring local initiatives, expressed his excitement during the opening ceremony, gesturing to the players and fans gathered around the field.

The first game was an amazing spectacle. Parents, kids, and friends cheered from the sidelines with some of Nigerian super eagles players like Victor osimehn was also at the scene to witness the performance of some of the team, as two local teams faced off, and dust kicked up from the field. You could sense the pride in the air, particularly after one of the teams’ lanky strikers scored a goal that sent everyone into a frenzy.

These kinds of situations serve as a reminder that football is more than just a game in this place. Dosh, who has gained recognition in Lagos for his music, real estate, and community-driven projects, didn’t hold back when it came to his ideas for the competition. His goal is to establish it as a yearly occasion where young athletes can attract scouts and maybe even take their skills beyond the city.

Additionally, the tournament isn’t just for the athletes. By selling suya, cold beverages, and snacks along the field’s edges, local vendors transformed the day into a miniature festival. Children who were too young to play ran around kicking their own homemade balls and hoping to get on the field one day. It was noisy, chaotic, and distinctly Lagos—everything you would want from a community gathering.

The first day concluded with promises of more action as the sun sank below the horizon. Dosh is already making references to a spectacular finale that will reveal even more surprises, and the schedule is jam-packed with games scheduled over the next few weekends.

Because of Dosh Lowkee and this competition, Lagos currently has a new pulse throbbing through its streets. Get a friend and come down to watch a game if you’re nearby. It’s a celebration of who we are and goes beyond football.
