Move over Lagos, Abuja is proving it has what it takes to host cinematic magic. On December 14, 2024, Silverbird Cinemas in Central District Area was abuzz with excitement during the private screening of Night of 29th, a MascotFilms production that challenges Nollywood norms.

The film, directed by Rash and produced by Oluwaseunfunmi Mascot, who also stars in the movie and chose Abuja as its home, bypassing Lagos, the traditional hub of Nigerian cinema. “Abuja offers a calm, creative space that allowed us to focus on telling the story the way it deserved to be told,” said Mascot. “It’s time we explore more cities and uncover the stories they have to share.”

The exclusive screening attracted notable guests, including award-winning filmmaker Dimbo Atiya, Bright Wonder of HDFA Academy, and Kassim Braimah of Feempipo, alongside an eager audience of filmmakers and cinephiles.

Night of 29th weaves a gripping tale filled with socio-cultural commentary, brought to life by its stellar cast. Emmanuella Otsapa, Kolawole Abiodun and Oluwaseunfunmi Mascot, though relatively new to the limelight, delivered performances that left the audience in awe.

The event wasn’t just about watching a film, it was a celebration of storytelling and a testament to Abuja’s growing influence in Nollywood. The Q&A session was a highlight, with Rash sharing insights into his creative process and emphasizing the need for films that educate and challenge societal norms.

Oluwaseunfunmi Mascot shared his dual experience as producer and actor: “Acting in Night of 29th was an incredible journey, but producing it in Abuja made it even more special. The city’s energy inspired us to dig deeper into the story, and I’m proud of what we’ve created here.”

With plans for a nationwide premiere in early 2025, Night of 29th is poised to make waves across Nigeria. MascotFilms is committed to producing quality films that inspire and provoke thought, and this production is no exception.

Abuja is ready for its close-up, and Night of 29th is leading the charge, proving that Nollywood’s stories can shine brightly, no matter where they’re told.
