The Chairman of the China International Contractors Association (CHINCA), Mr. Fang Qiuchen, has unveiled plans to collaborate with Nigeria on renewable energy, smart city development, and infrastructure projects.
Speaking at the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) and the 18th China Engineering Technology Exhibition on Thursday in Abuja, Fang emphasized the need to harness China’s advanced technology and expertise to address Nigeria’s energy challenges and enhance urban development.
“Our partnership will focus on leveraging China’s technological advancements and Nigeria’s vast resources to create a sustainable energy framework that benefits both nations,” Fang said.
He highlighted the integration of advanced technologies such as big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance infrastructure, promote agricultural modernization, and foster the blue economy.
Fang also noted that investments in solar, wind, and hydroelectric energy projects would align with global trends towards cleaner energy.
Additionally, He said the development of smart cities would integrate digital technologies to improve urban management and elevate residents’ quality of life.
“These initiatives will not only transform Nigeria’s infrastructure sector but also inject new energy into mutual economic growth,” he added.
The Minister of Transportation, Said Ahmed Alkali, reiterated the importance of the collaboration, describing it as pivotal to achieving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He commended Chinese companies such as CCECC, CRCC, and CRSC for their involvement in key projects, including the railway modernization program.
“This partnership aligns with Nigeria’s focus on infrastructure development as a gateway to economic growth. The Federal Ministry of Transportation remains committed to sustainable collaboration with Chinese entities to deliver accessible, safe, and environmentally friendly transportation systems,” Alkali said.
Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, also praised the deepening ties between the two nations, describing their relationship as a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
He highlighted major projects such as the Nigerian Railway, Zungeru Hydropower Station, and Lekki Port as evidence of successful cooperation.
“This exhibition underscores our shared commitment to advancing industrialization, agricultural modernization, and sustainable development in Nigeria,” Yu added.
Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, Joseph Tegbe, noted that the partnership aligns with China’s Belt and Road Initiative, positioning Nigeria as a critical hub in West Africa.
He emphasized that the renewable energy agenda and ongoing infrastructure projects would significantly contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
